Paul Jackson Jr.
Guitarist/composer/producer, Paul received a “Best R&B Instrumental” GRAMMY nomination for the title track of his first release entitled “I Came to Play.” His single “It’s A Shame” from his current release “Still Small Voice”, achieved the status of #1 in the country on the Smoothjazz.com and R&R Smooth Jazz charts and remained in the top ten for months. Performed at Montreux, Playboy and other Jazz festivals and numerous venues worldwide as well as on numerous movie and TV sound tracks, TV Specials and Awards shows.
In addition to his work as a solo artist, Paul’s stellar live and studio performances earned him several awards and the reputation of being the most recorded and requested guitarist in the world. Paul has received “Gold” and “Platinum” albums reflecting sales in excess of 85 million albums containing his “guitarisma”. He has worked with Michael Jackson (Thriller, Bad and History) and many other artists including: the Crusaders, Celine Dion, Madonna, Yolanda Adams, Destiny’s Child, Dave Koz, Mary J. Blige, Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, George Duke, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Patrice Rushen, Backstreet Boys, etc., etc.
Paul was also Music Director for The American Cinema Awards Show, which honored Bob Hope, the sitcoms Martin and Townsend Television and Patti Austin and co-composed music for the movie, Undercover Brother.
Freddie Flewellen Jr.
Freddie, presently music director for Paul Jackson Jr. and also the “Miracles” was formerly music director for the Emotions and Denise Williams. Freddie is also a five time winner of the Gospel Music Workshop Of America Bass Player of the Year award, is featured in several advertisements and articles related to the bass and has numerous string and bass endorsements.
He has performed with many great artists including: James Cleveland, Bobby Jones, Andre and Sandra Crouch, Billy Preston, Heatwave, The Emotions, Denice Williams, Vesta, the Commodores, The Manhattans, Doc Powell, Patti Austin, Ronnie Laws, Phil Perry, Earth Wind and Fire, Everett Harp, Al McKay’s All Stars and many more. TV performances include the Sinbad Soul Festival, Good Morning America featuring Paul Jackson Jr. and Weekly services of West Angeles Church in Los Angeles. He also co-arranged music for a selection o the award winning album “I Need You” by Smokey Norful.
After receiving his education from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Donn also studied at the University of Southern California as a Music Education Major with emphasis on conducting. Donn’s first music job; Music Director for critically acclaimed CBS recording artist Bill Withers. After that Donn has been a well sought after keyboardist/composer, working with a slew of artists.
George Duke hired Donn to Tour with him and Electra Records, Anita Baker for many tours. Donn has also been music director for Dave Koz for 7 years and Kenny Loggins for 7 years. Donn has composed many station ID’s for 94.7 the Wave. Donn is proud to have released his own CD, “TIMELESS” which features Dave Koz. Donn is currently completing his 2nd CD, which will feature Paul Jackson Jr. and other music greats.

For keyboardist Herman Jackson, joining the American Idol house band for Season 5 has proven to be a spectacular gig, but Herman is no newcomer to high-profile performance. His bio reads like a music-industry directory, including live performances and/or recordings with Aretha Franklin, Babyface, Quincy Jones, Jessica Simpson, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight, George Benson, Too $hort, Tone Loc, Outkast, Peabo Bryson, and James Ingram to name a few.
Mari graduated from Berklee College of Music, with dual degree in Film Scoring and Jazz Composition. She has since composed and/or arranged music for Time Warner local network, theatre, web-sites, short indie films: has also played for various artists such as Billy Davis Jr. & Marilyn McCoo, Mallia Franklin, PresentTense, Keyo, monthly ministry at Chino State Prison and numerous churches in California, including weekly service at New Dawn Christian Village with pastor Frank Wilson.
Rastine Calhoun III
Composer, arranger & Producer, Rastine’s work has been featured in films such as Hoodlums (with Lawrence Fishburne), Life (with Eddie Murphy & Martin Lawrence), and Little Death (with J.T. Walsh) and the TV show Felicity.
Performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival backing John Lewis, Woody Herman and Mundell Lowe. Also performed and/or recorded with The Four Tops, Babyface, Marvin Gaye, Gap Band, James Ingram, Diane Reeves, Sheena Easton, Patrice Rushen, and Gladys Knight among others.
Stellar musician, Gerald Spikes, in addition to performing and recording with Paul Jackson, Jr., over the years has appeared with such notables as Les McCain, Doc Powell, Chante Moore, Byron Miller, Alan Hewitt, Howard Hewitt, Teena Marie, Rick James, Andre Crouch, Sandra Crouch, Douglas Miller, and others. Gerald is much sought after because his musicianship enhances any ensemble/band with whom he performs.
Prior to joining the Paul Jackson Jr. Ensemble, Dion toured with Natalie Cole, and performed in many of the great Tyler Perry productions. He has appeared with many notable performers including BB King, Isaac Hayes, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Ali Woodson, Albertina Walker, Kelly Price, The Winans, Alexander O’Neal, Dorian Holley, just to name a few. Dion is musically versatile in that he performs, gospel, jazz, classical, and blues with equal ease.
Karen Jackson-Evans, an accomplished percussionist, holds a degree in instrumental music. Having performed and recorded with various artists, and having appeared in several stage productions including a performance at Carnegie Hall, her musical talents encompass all styles of music from classical to R&B and Jazz.
She has previously performed with the Southeast Symphony Orchestra and currently plays tympani with the Bellflower Symphony. She has toured, internationally, with her brother, guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr.

Kevin Carter Sr
Kevin Carter, who is a very experienced musician (bassist) and past member of local bands in the Los Angeles area has served as technical assistant to Patrice Rushen, Rose Royce and The Bus Boys in addition to his being a key member of the Paul Jackson Jr. Ensemble.
